This is one of three pieces I did from the same great little bungalow in Sacramento. The pictures were taken on a visit there a few years ago. The title doesn't refer to a decade (I think this home was probably built in the 1940s) but to the street numbers of the residential areas as they extend out from the capitol. I think Sacramentans refer to the houses between 39th and 50th Streets as the Fabulous 40s, because so much of the real estate there is pretty plum. Maybe the next ten blocks should be called the Fascinating 50s. This little place, at least, held a lot of my interest.
I live on what they call the Connecticut Shoreline, near New Haven.
I've been painting a long time. Most of my focus over the years has been on nonobjective subject matter; this ongoing series of realist work, of light falling on houses, is a fairly recent pursuit, echoing an interest I had as a college student back in the 70s.
